Fr Martin ChambersParish Priest - St Matthew's and Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Martin Chambers was born in 1964 and baptised at St Paul’s Church, Shettleston, Glasgow. He was educated at St Mary’s Primary, Irvine, Guardian Angels Primary, Bury, St Vincent’s College, Langbank and St Mary’s College, Blairs. His Senior Seminary was the Royal Scots College, Spain – both at Valladolid and then Salamanca – where he graduated with a Bachelor of Sacred Theology.
Fr Martin was ordained at St Mary’s, Irvine on 25th August 1989. In the Diocese of Galloway, he has been an assistant priest at St John’s, Stevenston; administrator at St Sophia’s, Galston and St Paul’s, Hurlford; and Parish Priest at St Thomas’ Muirkirk, St Bride’s, West Kilbride, St John’s, Stevenston, St Sophia’s, Galston and presently at St Matthew’s and Mount Carmel parishes, Kilmarnock. He also served five years on the Missions serving with the Missionary Society of St James in Guayaquil, Ecuador.
He has served as a chaplain to HCPT-the Pilgrimage Trust which takes disabled and disadvantaged children to Lourdes each Easter week. From his time as a missionary, he continues to promote missionary awareness in the Diocese and further afield.
Stephen McGrattan was born in 1975 and baptised in St Brendan’s Church, Saltcoats. He was educated at St Peter’s Primary, Ardrossan; St Andrew’s Academy, Saltcoats; the University of Glasgow; the Royal Scots College, Spain and the Pontifical University of Salamanca where he graduated with a Bachelor of Sacred Theology and Licence in Philosophy.
Father Stephen was ordained in St Peter-in-Chains, Ardrossan on 6th July 2003. He has been assistant priest in St Paul’s, Ayr; and parish Priest in Maybole and Mossblown; Cumnock, Auchinleck and Muirkirk; Hurlford; and presently St Joseph’s, Kilmarnock. He has served as Diocesan Youth Chaplain since 2010 and is Diocesan Master of Ceremonies and a member of the National Liturgy Commission.
